From Field Trips to Fieldwork

Growing up, field trips were our magical escapes from the routine of fluorescent lighting and cinderblock classroom walls, where we ventured into the unknown with wide eyes and eager minds.

Maybe it was a trip to the zoo, a day at the museum or a jaunt to the playground around the corner; each was an invitation to see the world differently—beyond #2 pencils and Scantron tests. The sun on our faces, the smell of fresh air, and the sense of adventure that came with stepping outside of familiar surroundings—these experiences were meant to expand our horizons, to show us that learning wasn’t confined to a desk.

We didn’t realize it at the time, but each trip quietly shaped the way we would one day navigate the world, filling us with curiosity and wonder for what lay beyond the humdrum of our everyday lives.

We still believe in the magic of field trips—the power to transform lives, broaden perspectives, and inspire lasting change. That’s why we're committed to offering these impactful experiences to as many people as possible.

Disrupting the Status Quo

From the start, Field Trip has been about more than just sailing—we’re here to unlock access, create opportunity, and change the face of who gets to be on the water. That’s why we’ve intentionally priced our sails to not only sustain our operations, but to fuel our Sailing For All initiative.

In summer 2024, we partnered with My Block, My Hood, My City to bring over 45 youth out on Lake Michigan—many of them experiencing the lake up close for the very first time. In 2025, we’re setting our sights even higher: our goal is to triple that number and share the lake with even more young people who’ve historically been left out of this space.

They told us not to rock the boat. We launched our own.
